Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reported that Newcastle United were pushing a deal to sign Inter Milan’s Valentino Lazaro along quickly yesterday and that news was later seemingly backed up by Lee Ryder, who claimed the Toon were hoping to hold face-to-face talks with the player in the coming days.
With the story breaking, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie also offered his insight into the potential deal, claiming on Twitter that the Austrian international was due to fly to Tyneside to undergo a medical. Furthermore, he reported that there was a £20m option included in the arrangement, should the Magpies want to sign him permanently over the course of the summer.

So, with Christian Atsu’s performance away at Everton in mind, strengthening the right-hand flank certainly does look like a good idea. After all, the Ghanian failed to produce a single cross at Goodison Park while Lazaro – who can also operate as a wing-back – averaged 1.5 per game (via WhoScored) last season while with Hertha Berlin.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the reaction.
