According to the Chronicle, a takeover at Newcastle United is now a big possibility as Mike Ashley prepares to return to the UK in order to assess his next move. Indeed, while the Sports Direct mogul is understood to have been irked by reports leaking, there is understood to be a strong chance of £340millon deal being struck with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Obviously, the fact that there have been rumours linking the likes of the Bin Zayed Group, Amanda Stavely and Peter Kenyon before would suggest fans approach the idea of Ashley finally leaving St. James’ Park with caution, as the outlet’s footballing publishing editor Mark Douglas pointed out.

However, the major talking point from this report amongst sections of the support on Twitter actually appears to be about Ashley himself. That’s because the story suggests the Magpies owner needs convincing that any buyer could take the club forward, which seems strange given the fact that his lack of ambition was cited by Rafa Benitez as one of the major reasons he left Tyneside.

With that in mind, here’s a look at some the reaction online after @NUFC360 relayed the story on Twitter.
