While the manner in which Newcastle United conceded an equalizer against Wolves yesterday so soon after taking the lead is obviously frustrating, it’s hard to argue against a point being picked up away at Molineux being a good result, especially given some of the circumstances.
The likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Allan Saint-Maximin and Jamaal Lascelles were all missing and then both Paul Dummett followed by Dwight Gayle limped off in the first-half, after all. Indeed, with Wolves bossing possession (65%, via WhoScored) and registering 4 shots on target, the Magpies can be happy with the way they defended against a side who recently put Premier League champions Manchester City to the sword in the Black Country.
Though there wasn’t much to shout about in terms on an attacking front despite Miguel Almiron’s early opener, one man who operated reasonably well yesterday was the subject of a number of fans on social media begging him to stay. Jetro Willems – who provided the assist – was handed a 7/10 by the Chronicle for his outing against Adama Traore who, despite taking the game to the Toon Army on a number of occasions, was successful in only 6 of his 10 dribbles (per SofaScore). A decent return perhaps though, when you consider the fact that Willems made 2 interceptions (the joint-most of any player clad in black and white), it’s clear the man on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt was at least able to contain him in part.
Promisingly, back in November, the Chronicle (who also cited German outlet Kicker) actually reported that there was a clause in his loan deal that could see the Toon Army wrap up a move for £10m.

Taking to Twitter after the game to describe Wolves’ Spaniard as a ‘beast’, the 25-year-old was begged to stay on a permanent deal by a number of supporters on the social media platform. So, having said all that, here’s a look at some of the messages, as well as comments from other fans.

If there ever was a reminder that #NUFC‘s January priority should be getting Jetro Willems signed up permanently, it was that goal.
So tidy.

Think Ritchie has been a massive miss for his all out graft and leadership and I'd like to see him back. Willems has done really well and should tie that deal up. Feel so bad for the stick joelinton getting. He won't be rested I don't think
