While Steve Bruce turned to Dwight Gayle for this afternoon’s trip to Wolves, the Daily Mail suggest that Newcastle United are willing to allow the former Crystal Palace striker to leave on loan over the course of this month, albeit with a twist.
As per the report, the Toon Army are eager to include a £20m obligation to buy in any arrangement were he to leave St. James’ Park this season amid reported interest from the likes of Nottingham Forest.
According to Transfermarkt, the 29-year-old has a rating of just £10.9m and it’s important to remember that West Bromwich Albion pulled out of a permanent deal for the player in the summer following his loan stint at the club, citing his ‘Premier League contract’, as per BBC Sport.
After all, he’s only thought to have cost Newcastle £10m in the first place and has just over a year on his contract remaining.
So, with that in mind, a lot of Magpies fans couldn’t believe how much the club were reportedly asking for Gayle this month, Here’s a look at some of that reaction.
Laughable.

I’d be happy with 10m

We will NEVER get £20m for gayle. he isn't worth £20m. He is a great player in the championship. However that is ludicrous. I'm sick of loaning out players like gayle. Get rid. Wash your hands bring in someone better…but this is Newcastle United we don't do this with a brain.

The annoying thing about this , is Ashley wouldn't pay 16m for Rondon due to his age. Rondon is younger than Gayle I believe. The hypocrisy of Ashley knows no bounds .

there’s no way anyone pays 20m ahahaha

£20 million for a championship player but wouldn't pay £13 million for a premier league player. State of this club.
