Newcastle United’s form has really picked up of late, but one thing the Magpies are still missing is a first goal for winger Miguel Almiron.
Summer signing Allan Saint-Maximin finally got off the mark in the 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Thursday with a fine header, but his fellow forward Almiron has yet to find the back of the net since his January move from Atlanta United.
However, Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas feels that the Paraguay international’s shocking run in front of goal is set to end against Southampton on Sunday.
“I have a feeling this could be the weekend Joelinton and Miguel Almiron finally break their ducks,” he wrote on the Sky Sports website, while predicting the Magpies will beat the Saints 2-1.
Ignoring the fact that Nicholas seems to believe Joelinton hasn’t scored for Newcastle yet (he netted the winner against Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the season), his Almiron prediction will surely have the Toon Army bouncing.
There’s not much the Newcastle supporters want more than for Almiron to finally end his scoreless streak. It’s yet to happen, but he has showed some positive signs recently.
The past two games have been two of his best this season. His WhoScored ratings against Manchester City and Sheffield United were 7.59 and 6.92. That’s not amazing, but it’s pretty solid [Source: WhoScored.com].
It’s going to happen sooner or later, and you get the sense it might be just round the corner. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side aren’t the best at the back, so there’s every chance the Paraguayan may finally bring a smile to the Newcastle fans’ faces on Sunday.
