Morrison drools over Bruce

Clinton Morrison has heaped praise on Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce, claiming he is “one of the best” man-managers around.

The Toon boss has overseen a positive start to the season on Tyneside, with his side going into the weekend just four points off fifth place.

And Morrison has claimed that he is completely unsurprised by the 58-year-old’s success.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, (December 7th, 13.00), he said: ” I said it at the start of the season, he’ll be superb there at Newcastle.

“I worked with him at Birmingham City, for man-management he was one of the best.

“I knew he’d be a hit there. He is brilliant. He’s doing a terrific job there.”

Bruce had his fair share of detractors when he was appointed as Newcastle manager, and understandably so. Following in the footsteps of Rafa Benitez was always going to be a difficult task, and with his fairly uninspiring record in the Premier League prior to getting the Toon gig, you would be forgiven for expecting the worse. Since coming in, however, he has turned this Magpies’ side into one of the dark horses of the Premier League. Sure, they’re not going to be challenging for Europe come the business end of the season, and a points per game of 1.19, as per Transfermarkt, is hardly earth shattering, but the Toon Army look hard to beat, and have picked up some really impressive results along the way. Avoiding the drop would probably be deemed a success all things considered, but at the moment, United will be hoping for something much more than that.
