OPINION
This time last season, if you’d told most Newcastle United fans that another Premier League side were interested in Javier Manquillo, they probably would have offered to pack his bags for him and pay his taxi fare to the train station to boot. Now, however, with the Spaniard having finally found something akin to decent form, it would appear that a lot of them have changed their mind. According to a report from the Telegraph, West Ham are looking to tie up a cut-price deal for the full-back in January, and many Magpies are horrified at the prospect. So far this term, Manquillo appears to be flourishing under Steve Bruce. His averaged of 1.9 tackles and 2.2 clearances per game, as per Whoscored, show a player who is starting to really get to grips with his defensive duties on Tyneside. At the moment, he is definitely the best pick in his position, ahead of Deandre Yedlin, and Emil Krafth, and letting him go to a side who are currently beneath the Magpies in the Premier League table seems nothing short of nonsensical. It’s an odd turn of events, but Manquillo has to stay put.
