OPINION

It’s finally happened folks, this is not a drill. Allan Saint-Maximin has opened his account for Newcastle United, and you would have gotten long odds on him breaking his duck in the manner that he did. A superb headed effort, bulleted into bottom corner beyond the despairing reach of Dean Henderson, it was enough to get the Toon Army raving on Twitter – and you can’t blame them. For weeks now the tricky Frenchman has threatened to be a real danger for the Magpies, but he has consistently lacked end product. If he can goals to his game, as he did in the first half against Sheffield United, then who knows how much of a threat he could become. So far this term he has averaged 4.3 successful dribbles per game, as per Whoscored, and a player with that kind of ability is always going to be one to watch. With the added dimension of goals too, the wide man could honestly go down as one of the signings of the season. Obviously, it’s important not to get ahead of ourselves, but at the very least, this will be a night that lives long in the memory for the 22-year-old.
