Kevin Nolan claimed that Newcastle boss Steve Bruce will be worrying about his side failing to keep a clean sheet against West Ham on Saturday.

The Magpies got their third league win of the season against the Hammers at the weekend after beating the Hammers 3-2 at the London Stadium.

The Sky Sports pundit shared based on what he knows about Bruce, he believes the Newcastle boss will be worried about conceding two late goals and that him and his staff will be working hard to make sure that sort of thing doesn’t happen again.

“I think he will be pleased by where they are at the minute but he’ll be striving for better and for more perfection if you like,” said Nolan on Sky Sports’ The Debate (23:04, Monday, November 4th, Sky Sports Premier League).

“He would have liked to have come away with a clean sheet, conceding two lates goals, he’ll be worrying about that, I imagine, knowing him and his staff.

“He’ll be delighted with the three points, but they’ll be looking at those incidents to make sure, they start getting the perfect weekends.”

OPINION

It is good to hear Bruce isn’t likely to bask too much in the glory of an unexpected win, as the Magpies did nearly let a 3-0 lead slip. Newcastle were 3-0 up in the 51st minute and were looking comfortable, but after Fabian Balbuena pulled one back, followed by Robert Snodgrass getting another for West Ham, there was this sinking feeling that the Magpies were capable of throwing the game away. Newcastle looked too open at the back and considering they had talented experienced defenders like Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez on the pitch, it’s a bit of a mystery why they allowed themselves to be carved open. The only real explanation is that the side lost focus with them having such a comfortable lead, and that sort of thing must be ensured that it won’t happen again. After all, if West Ham had got their first goal earlier than the 73rd minute, then they may have had enough time to complete a comeback.
