Many Newcastle United fans destroyed defender Paul Dummett for his performance in the 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Monday night. One Newcastle fan went as far to call the enforcer a disgrace, with another supporter saying they were sick of watching him. While that was bad enough one member of the Toon Army further stuck the knife in Dummett’s heart, by claiming the Welshman’s display didn’t surprise him as he has been abysmal all season. While the level of criticism for Dummett is a little bit too high, considering 90% of Steve Bruce’s side were way below par against Villa, it’s easy to see why fans were displeased with him. The 28-year-old touched the ball only 27 times against Villa, as per WhoScored, with only one other member of Bruce’s starting line-up touching the ball less. Granted Dummett did leave the pitch on the 62nd-minute mark, but his lack of touches highlight how little of a difference he was making. Also, it is rather damning that he only completed 73.3% of his passes despite not really attempting many, as he ended the game having only passed the ball 15 times.
