Alan Brazil slammed Newcastle United attacker Joelinton when discussing the Magpies’ lack of goal threat with Steve Harmison.
The talkSPORT host quickly added that Brazilian attacker Joelinton is currently having a mare, and opted to cheekily modify his name for effect.
“Joe from Linton is having a mare,” said Brazil on talkSPORT (6:12am, Thursday, November 28th).
Harmison then claimed that he didn’t know what the Magpies were going to get from their other attacker Allan Saint-Maximin and Brazil opted to defend him by suggesting that the winger at least excites him.
“He doesn’t know, but at least he excites you,” added Brazil.
OPINION
It’s no surprise that Brazil has questioned Joelinton’s current run of form as his display in the 2-0 loss to Aston Villa was awful. The 23-year-old failed to register a shot on target against the Villans, despite having three attempts on goal, and was sloppy when passing the ball as only 61.6% of his passes found their mark (Source: WhoScored). Also while it was promising that Joelinton registered two dribbles against the Villans, it’s hard to praise him as his runs led to nothing, as his end product just wasn’t there. As for Brazil’s remarks on Saint-Maximin, it’s no surprise the Frenchman excites him as the winger is a joy to watch. The 22-year-old completed a staggering seven dribbles against the Villans, as per WhoScored, with several of them leaving a number of Villa’s players baffled. However, once again, not enough was made of Saint-Maximin’s run and fans are only going to continue to be wowed by him if his runs start leading to goals, whether that be him scoring or registering an assist.
