Alan Brazil shared he couldn’t believe that Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron has failed to score for the club when you consider he has had 41 shots.

The 25-year-old has had more shots without scoring than any other player in the Premier League this season, 22, and in general has had 41 shots on goal while playing the Magpies without scoring. (Source: BBC Sport)

Almiron has also created 22 chances for his teammates without registering an assist, and Brazil claimed his stats were “murder” to reveal how appalled he was.

“I couldn’t believe it, these stats, Almiron has had more shots without scoring than anyone in the Premier League,” said Brazil on talkSPORT (06:12am, Tuesday, November 26th).

“22 shots and he still hasn’t scored once, 41 shots overall and he still hasn’t scored his first goal or register his first assist.

“22 chances, stick them in goal! That’s murder.

“How can you have stats like that?”

OPINION

Okay Brazil is a little harsh to moan at Almiron for not registering assists as surely that’s not completely his fault? After all, if the 25-year-old has created 22 chances, then surely you have to moan about his teammates not taking them, rather than at him for not getting that allusive assist. However, Brazil is probably right to be up in arms over Almiron’s goalscoring stats as it’s insane that he hasn’t scored for the Magpies since joining from Atlanta United in January. It’s only made more insane when you consider he has had 41 attempts as surely by now, luck should have rolled in his favour and one of them should have been deflected in. Yet as it stands, Almiron still hasn’t proven his end product in the Premier League and this leaves Steve Bruce with a dilemma. Does he stick with the Paraguayan and hope a goal will come? Or does he take a chance on perhaps utilising Dwight Gayle, who isn’t exactly proven in the Premier League himself? After all, the Englishman has only scored 21 goals in 102 Premier League outings, so it may take him a number of shots until he scores in the top-flight this season.
