Steve Bruce is almost certainly set for a busy January transfer window.

With his Newcastle United side lurching from sublime to ridiculous this season, a few signings to steady the ship wouldn’t go amiss.

The Toon Army are looking a lot brighter since they recorded two successive wins in their last two Premier League matches, and are now somehow just two points of fifth.

But a couple of bad results could change all of that, and as such, an active window could be a must.

One name that has been thrown about regularly is that of Granit Xhaka.

The Swiss midfielder has been at the centre of a whole host of controversies at Arsenal following an ill-tempered confrontation with fans after being substituted against Crystal Palace at the end of October.

And it is understood that the Toon Army could be keen to swoop for him in January.

Judging by the latest report from the Chronicle, that raid could be made a whole lot more likely, depending on how his upcoming showdown with Unai Emery goes.

The local outlet reports that Xhaka is set for talks when he returns from the international break, and if a resolution cannot be found to secure his future in north London, that would surely be good news for the Magpies.

Xhaka is clearly a player of pedigree, and if things go to plan and Bruce gets his man, he could prove to be a fantastic addition for the second half of a season that is balanced on a knife’s edge.
