Jeff Stelling has hailed Allan Saint-Maximin for his performance in Newcastle United’s 3-2 win over West Ham last weekend.

The Frenchman had a wonderful afternoon in the capital, and was unfortunate not to open his goalscoring account for the Toon Army.

And Stelling was eager to sing his praises.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, November 9th, 14.05), he said: “He is a whippet.

“I mean, he’s like greased lightning, and what a performance last week.

“He caused mayhem in the West Ham defence.”

OPINION

To be fair, how could you not be impressed by Saint-Maximin last week? The wide man was in irresistible form, and poor Pablo Zabaleta must still be having nightmares about him. There was one moment in particular when the Frenchman not only ate up about 10 to 15 yards on the veteran full-back, but he then proceeded to leave him in the dust too. And his all-round game was magnificent too. With five successful dribbles, three shots on target, a key passes, and just two unsuccessful touches, as per Whoscored, this was a player on top of his game last weekend. If he can keep up that kind of form and start adding a few goals to his game, don’t be surprised to see him heralded as one of the signings of the season come the end of the campaign. What a player he could become.
