Jeff Stelling has suggested that Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka “must do better”.
The 6’3″ stopper conceded twice in the 3-2 win over West Ham on Saturday, as well as making a hash of things for Wolves’ equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Wolves last Sunday.
And as a result, Stelling believes that he must improve.
Speaking on Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, Saturday November 2nd, 12pm), he said: “Dubravka must do better.”
OPINION
Perhaps this is a little bit harsh from Stelling, but certainly, you could make an argument that Dubravka hasn’t looked his usual self at times this season. The mistake that led to Wolves’ equaliser last weekend wasn’t a glaring howler, but it was the kind of thing that you would expect him to deal an awful lot better with. The Slovakian stopper has made six errors leading directly to goals in his 61 Premier League appearances, but of those mistakes, two have come in the 11 appearances he has made this season, as per the Premier League themselves. That’s not to say that he’s playing terribly, but in a season that could come down to very fine margins, he needs to pull his finger out.
