Ryder quashes takeover talk

Lee Ryder has given his view on the latest round of Newcastle United takeover rumours, suggesting that a buyout is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

A report in The Athletic on Monday suggested that the Mexican Orlegi Group are “confident” of completing a deal, but Ryder is less convinced.

Speaking on the Everything is Black & White Podcast, the Chronicle reporter said: “The fact that we’re not sat in Chiquito’s for this podcast should tell you that it’s not happening.”

This is exactly the kind of update that Newcastle United fans will not be wanting to hear. The fact of the matter is that all hope and belief in Tyneside has dissipated to a point where any kind of optimism is a distant memory, and with every passing rumour that doesn’t come true, that hope recedes a little bit more. In all likelihood, when a takeover does happen, and it will one day, then it will come out of the blue. The manner in which Mike Ashley works means that any kind of leak to the media is going to set a prospective buyer back. We saw it with the Bin Zayed Group over the summer, and we’re probably seeing it again here. It’s counterintuitive, but no news is very probably good news in this case, and while it might be a difficult thing to muster, it does mean that the Toon Army have to keep on hoping against hope that one day they will wake up and Ashley will have vanished in the night.
