Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has admitted that he has not felt much pain from the injury picked up against Bournemouth recently.

The Magpies enforcer revealed that he cracked his tibia in that 2-1 win, and is now playing a waiting game with his expected return date not until January.

Lascelles shared that he has been able to continue his gym work despite the setback, meaning he has been able to keep up his fitness which has kept him feeling good.

“I’m actually feeling good,” he wrote in his programme notes for the Manchester City clash, as quoted by the Chronicle.

“I’m able to do a lot of stuff in the gym and keep on top of my fitness and since I did it I’ve not really felt much pain.”

Lascelles had started every single game in the Premier League before being sidelined with injury, completing 90 minutes in each clash except the 1-0 win away at Tottenham.

OPINION

No matter what the club, having your captain sidelined is a massive blow. Lascelles has been superb at the back since Steve Bruce arrived, and although the Magpies’ boss has a number of options available to replace him, he will have been gutted with the diagnosis. The 26-year-old always leads from the back, and just his presence alone in the heart of the defence managed to inspire his teammates. It is good news that Lascelles is able to complete work in the gym in his off-time, and it could lead to him recovering quicker than what he would have done if he was forced to just sit and wait by the physios. He is clearly feeling positive about the setback that would make you believe that he is happy with his own progress – something which could suggest he is on the right track to return as soon as possible for the Magpies.
