Everton defender Lewis Gibson has taken to Instagram to send a message to Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff.

The teenager has been linked with a return to St. James’ Park, as per Football Insider, after leaving the Magpies for the Toffees’ youth setup.

And responding to a post on Longstaff’s personal account showing the Toon midfielder making his England U20s debut, Gibson wrote: “My bro”.

OPINION

Gibson clearly still has strong connections to Tyneside, having worked his way up through the ranks at United before heading to Everton. Now, with first team opportunities looking fairly minimal with the Blues, it would surely be in his best interests to find a new club. That’s certainly the opinion of pundit Noel Whelan too, who claims that the youngster is a “big talent”, as per Football Insider. The defender is also an England youth international, and evidently has the potential to have a huge future ahead of him. He’s only going to get that with regular game time though, and if the Toon Army are smart, they’ll capitalise on his ties to the club and bring him back on the promise of chances to prove himself in Steve Bruce’s first team. Friendships with players like Longstaff could prove to be a big swinging factor in any decision.
