Mike Ashley is set to hold talks with Steve Bruce to review his time as Newcastle United manager so far, as per The Chronicle.
It is understood that the controversial owner is satisfied with his appointment, but wants to catch up with the 58-year-old to discuss how things are going on Tyneside ahead of the January transfer window.
A piece from the local outlet reads: “It is believed that Ashley is pleased with the job that Steve Bruce has done so far since taking over in tricky circumstances since the departure of Rafa Benitez last summer.
“Ashley plans to sit down with Bruce at some stage to catch-up but is happy that the United boss is simply getting on with the job and focusing on results.
“Cash will be made available to Bruce in January should he need it, but the head coach is playing a cautious game when it comes to recruitment in the winter window.”
OPINION
To be fair to Bruce, things are probably going a lot better than could have been expected at this stage. Up until a couple of weeks ago, the Magpies looked to be in the midst of a relegation battle, but a couple of wins over the past fortnight have really altered the complexion of their campaign. Now the Toon Army are just two points of fifth, and you wouldn’t bet against them picking up a decent amount of points over their next few matches too, when they play Southampton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa. If they can take somewhere between seven and 12 points from that run of games, interspersed with tricky clashes against Manchester City and high-flying Sheffield United, then things will be set up nicely for the second half of the season. Nobody would have seen that coming this time a couple of months ago.
