Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is set to sign a new deal at St James’ Park, according to the Northern Echo.
The newspaper claim on their website that the experienced midfielder will be the next senior player to secure his future in the North East by putting pen-to-paper on a new contract.
The Northern Echo report that despite Shelvey being aware of potential interest from West Ham United and Crystal Palace, he is keen to extend his stay under Steve Bruce at the Magpies.
It was recently suggested by the Chronicle journalist, Mark Douglas, that Newcastle could face complications in securing the futures of Shelvey and Matt Ritchie.

Shelvey proved once again to Bruce and Newcastle that he is fully deserving of a new contract on Saturday afternoon in the 3-2 win at West Ham. Not only did he score the all-important third goal from a free-kick, but he also controlled the majority of the game from midfield for his side in possession. It was the 27-year-old’s first start since the 0-0 draw against Brighton, and he has most likely cemented his place in the side for the Bournemouth clash, as well as his near future at St James’ Park. Shelvey has struggled for consistency in the past couple of years under both Bruce and Rafael Benitez and will be hoping that his performance against West Ham joined by the fact he will sign a new deal will see him given an extended run in the starting line-up in the Premier League. Newcastle should give him that shot in their line-up, especially based on the fact that he could easily have moved to another club if he wanted too in January.
