Alan Shearer has hailed Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin for his performance against West Ham on Saturday.

The Frenchman was in eye-catching form during the 3-2 victory in east London, having the run of Hammers full-back Pablo Zabaleta for much of the game.

And speaking on Match of the Day (BBC One, Saturday November 2nd, 10.30pm), Shearer said: “Saint-Maximin, who I thought ran West Ham ragged, and it was the same thing for him with Almiron pointing where he wanted it.

“The pace was staggering from Saint-Maximin.

“His counter-attacking was superb and if we’re being critical we say he should score.”

OPINION

What a thrilling player Saint-Maximin is. The French winger is still yet to score or assist in seven Premier League appearances this season, but he looks absolutely lethal nonetheless, and if he could find a way of adding a little more end product, he could genuinely be one of the signings of the season. He certainly had his chances to open his account against West Ham, but on the couple of occasions when he did bear down on goal, he looked just a little hesitant. The confidence he needs to start finding the back of the net will hopefully come in time, but for now, the Magpies can take consolation in the three shots, five dribbles, and one key pass that he made against the Irons, as per Whoscored.
