Michael Owen has predicted Newcastle United will beat Bournemouth when the two sides meet this weekend.

The Magpies put on a good showing in their 3-2 victory over West Ham last time out, and ex-striker Owen foresees similar success against the Cherries.

Speaking to Bet Victor, he said: “A fabulous result for Newcastle at the London Stadium at the weekend, and I believe the Magpies will follow up that success against a Bournemouth side who have only scored once in their last four games although that was enough to beat Manchester United at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

“It has taken a while for Steve Bruce to win over the Toon Army, but they are certainly enjoying their trips to the capital this term.

“United found the back of the net three times in the opening 45 minutes at West Ham on Saturday but one might be enough against the Cherries back at St James’ Park.”

OPINION

It’s nice to see that Newcastle are getting some hype from pundits, especially one with such a complicated relationship with the club, but it’s also important to remember that there have been several false dawns already this season. The wins over Tottenham and Manchester United were both massive positives in their own right, but they were also followed up with considerably worse displays the week after. And that means that there’s nothing to suggest that Magpies won’t pull a similar stunt this weekend. You honestly wouldn’t put it past them to go and lose 3-0, but if there was one marked improvement last time out, it was that they carried a much greater goal threat. With nine shots on target, as per the BBC, this was much better, and that was largely thanks to Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin operating closer to Joelinton. Replicate that, and the Toon Army might get something here.
