Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie revealed on his personal Twitter account on Friday that Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce is interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka and believes Magpies centre back and Xhaka’s compatriot Fabian Schar could hold the key to the deal going through. The Newcastle fans are clearly not very happy with the idea of the club bringing in an expensive recruit who has well-established character issues. The 27-year-old was just stripped of the Gunners captaincy for swearing at his own fans, after all. The problem with this move is that Xhaka wouldn’t actually improve the north east giants. As per WhoScored.com, he averages two tackles per game, a strong tally but one that is actually less than the amount of fouls – 2.4 – that he averages per outing. That is quite astonishing. Plus, he has only one combined goal and assist this campaign, while he averages fewer than one shot or key pass per game. He is an in-between sort of player, not good enough going forward or at the back to be much use to Bruce.
