Steve Bruce is set to finalise his plans for the January transfer window this week and Metz striker Habib Diallo is expected to feature on the Newcastle United boss’ wishlist, according to the Express.

The newspaper claims that the Magpies have scouted Diallo, 24, in his last few outings for Metz, who are currently bottom of the Ligue 1 standings.

Diallo has been in superb goalscoring form for the French club despite their poor results, with him netting eight times in 12 league appearances.

It is understood that Leicester are also eyeing up the Senegal international, who is valued at £7million by Metz ahead of the transfer window re-opening in January.

OPINION

Newcastle could do with strengthening their attack in the January transfer window – but do they need a new centre-forward? Bruce already has Joelinton, Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto to choose from in that position but there has been speculation surrounding Gayle’s future at St James’ Park with a possible Championship return on the cards for him. Bruce only plays with one striker and Diallo is hardly going to be someone who gets into the starting line-up over £40million club-record signing Joelinton while Carroll could also be ahead of him so long as the ex-West Ham striker stays fit. Diallo is in good form for Metz and that £7million price-tag is inviting. However Bruce should want an attacking midfield or a new right-sided winger before adding to his striker options because as it stands, that is a position with a lower priority for the winter window.
