talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham believes that Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron needs to provide his team with ‘more quality’.

The Paraguay international has made a stuttering start to the season, and is still yet to score since joining the club from Atlanta United in January.

Durham hasn’t been impressed: “When you play five at the back as they do, I think those wing backs have got to get forward more,” he said on talkSPORT [01/11; 18:12].

“They’re missing Matt Ritchie on that front, he’s still out injured. They’re looking for more quality from Almiron, as well.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Newcastle need Almiron to provide more quality. The winger is a talented player, we’ve all seen that, but he just seems ridiculously low on confidence at the moment. He’s not being decisive enough in front of goal, while he seems almost too eager to impress. The statistics show that he is struggling to make an impact for Steve Bruce’s side. As per WhoScored.com, the 25-year-old has failed to provide a goal or an assist in the Premier League this season. Furthermore, he is averaging only 0.5 key passes and just 0.9 dribbles per game, despite his lightning pace. He is averaging 1.4 shots per outing, which is more encouraging, but the fact that he’s got nothing to show from that perhaps spins that into a negative. He’s being fouled 1.9 times per game, which shows that the opposition respect him and are keen to shut him down, but the fact that he is being dispossessed 1.1 times and having 3.1 unsuccessful touches shows that he really needs to improve in his use of the ball.
