Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has reportedly agreed terms on an £80,000-a-week deal with the club, according to Football Insider.

The Magpies announced that the 6’3″ colossus had put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him on Tyneside until 2025.

And the report states that the Slovakian international has received a pay rise that now puts him on par with Jonjo Shelvey as one of the Toon Army’s top earners.

OPINION

To be fair, you can understand why Newcastle have gone all out to secure Dubravka’s future at the club. The big Slovakian has been a revelation since joining the Toon Army, and is certainly one of the better goalkeepers they have had since the turn of the century. The stopper has made an average of 3.1 saves per game so far this season, as per Whoscored, That’s a marked improvement on the 2.5 he was averaging last term, and it doesn’t bear thinking about where the Magpies might be without him. Dubravka is a consistent star performer for United, and as such, it makes sense that he is rewarded with a contract to match. At 30, you wouldn’t be surprised if he finished his career at St. James’ Park.
