Steve Bruce is set to ask Newcastle United to sanction a deal for Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen, according to the Northern Echo.

The newspaper claim on their website that strengthening their midfield has become a priority for the Magpies after they’ve been encouraged by the form of their attackers in the final third.

The Northern Echo have reported that Bruce is still keen on bringing Bowen to the club in January or the summer, as he knows that the winger fits the club’s transfer policy being under 28-years-old and his value could still inflate after making a move to St James’ Park.

OPINION

Bruce seems eager to get his transfer business completed as early as possible and asking the Newcastle board a couple of months before the opening of the January transfer market could see them take big steps towards completing any deal. Mike Ashley will surely be a fan of his manager asking for one of his targets, and especially given that he is a younger player in top form and could get better in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has already been involved in 11 goals in his 16 appearances this season, despite playing for a side that are only just in the top half of the Championship and has lost six games. Bowen would be a great addition in the North East, and despite signs of encouragement, the Newcastle attack has only scored a single goal between the three of them, and his goals could be a major factor behind their success. Bruce clearly has a strong affection towards Bowen, and that could make the difference in any negotiations.
