Steve Wraith took a dig at Steve Bruce over his decision to remark on Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka’s display against Wolves and in doing so he missed the point.
Bruce publicly claimed that the Magpies shot-stopper should have done better when dealing with Matt Doherty’s cross that led to Wolves’ goal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw, and stated it was poor decision making that saw the keeper mess up.
“He (Dubravka) knows he could have done better,” said the Newcastle boss, as quoted by the Chronicle.
“It’s a poor decision from Martin.
“If you’re going to come and flap at it, then the one thing you can’t do is just push it in the middle of the goal.”
Wraith revealed he had a problem with Bruce’s decision to slam Dubravka as the Newcastle boss recently had claimed it was his job to protect struggling Magpies duo, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton.
“Steve Bruce: ‘It’s my job to protect Almiron and Joelinton.’ So why openly criticise Dubravka?” wrote Wraith on his Twitter account.

While it’s true that Bruce did say about protecting Almiron and implied it was the same case with Joelinton, as per Chronicle, Wraith has clearly missed the point as the manager is entitled to highlight Dubravka’s mistake.
Unlike Almiron and Joelinton, Dubravka is settled in at St James Park and has proven what he is capable of for the club, so Bruce knows that the rare mistake against Wolves was avoidable.
In fact, the 30-year-old has proven to be one of the club’s most important and reliable players this season as the Magpies probably would have suffered worse results without him.

The experienced keeper arguably lost focus which led to his poor decision making on Sunday, so Bruce was entitled to just put keeper on his toes over his performances as he should have done better.
Dubravka may benefit from being kept on his toes, whereas you feel enough people are criticising Almiron and Joelinton so they need protecting as their confidence is either already shattered or about to be.
So with that in mind Wraith has taken a needless dig as Bruce hasn’t done anything wrong on this occasion.
