Newcastle United have been offered the chance to re-sign former striker Papiss Demba Cisse, according to TEAMtalk.
The 34-year-old is currently the top scorer in Turkish football after hitting nine goals in nine games for Alanyaspor so far this season.
It is understood that the Senegalese hitman still believes he could do a job in the Premier League, and with his contract running out at the end of the season, the report suggests that Alanyaspor could cash in on him in January for as little as £3 million.
The Magpies are named as a potential destination should he return to England.
OPINION
This would certainly be an interesting one. The Toon Army already have one returning striker on the books after snapping up Andy Carroll over the summer, but the key difference here is that Cisse is actually scoring goals. That’s no slight on the big Geordie, but the 34-year-old is in red hot form in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe. Given how poorly the Magpies are performing in front of goal, plus Carroll’s patchy injury record, there might well be worse ideas than making a move for Cisse. He is still popular with a large section of the fanbase, he’s still scoring goals, and if he is available for £3 million, then he could well prove to be a gamble worth taking to keep the Toon Army in the top flight.
