Newcastle United are reportedly plotting a January swoop to sign Chelsea’s Reece James and some fans on Twitter would be thrilled with the idea of that deal taking place. According to the Sun, Steve Bruce is a fan of the 19-year-old right-back, who spent last season on loan at Wigan and has shown an ability to play in the centre of the midfield. It is understood that Bruce will approach Chelsea with an enquiry about James’ availability ahead of January as the England youth international may struggle for game-time due to the form of Cesar Azpilicueta. As good as James is, why do Newcastle need him? Bruce already has three right-backs in DeAndre Yedlin, Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth, with the latter only arriving on Tyneside in the summer. Newcastle need to strengthen their attacking and midfield areas, not the defence. James is a good player and one that should have been looked at in the summer before Krafth was brought in.

Reece James on loan reported to be a target. Good player with bags of potential, but waste of a loan imo. Enough depth at RWB (not great mind), however loans should be prioritised on attacking players if anything #NUFC
