Everton defender Lewis Gibson is very keen on a return to Newcastle United, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football outlet claim that the 19-year-old’s future is in the air at Goodison Park, with his current deal with the Toffees set to expire at the end of the season.

Football Insider report that the rising star is ready to leave Merseyside after being made aware of a possible return to St James’ Park, the place he left in 2017 for a fee that could rise to £6million.

It is suggested that a number of other English clubs, as well as teams in Germany, are interested in snapping up the young defender.

OPINION

Newcastle could pull off a masterstroke if they were able to bring back Gibson back to St James’ Park in a free deal swoop only a few years after they sold him in a deal worth multi-millions. With lack of first-team opportunities starting to frustrate the 19-year-old, a move back to the North East would suit the defender perfectly, as he would have the chance to earn a spot under Steve Bruce, rather than continuing to struggle at Goodison Park. The Magpies’ boss has already proven that he is willing to give youngsters an opportunity by starting Matty Longstaff against Manchester United, and that will surely tempt Gibson that he could have a future at his old club. Given his past at the club, it would be the logical decision for Gibson to move back to Newcastle and with the report claiming he is keen on a return, the Magpies are surely in the driving seat for his signature, something they must use to their advantage in negotiations.
