Mark Douglas has claimed that Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen is a player who ticks all of the boxes for Newcastle United ahead of the January transfer window.
The Chronicle journalist revealed that the 22-year-old is a player that keeps getting mentioned to him at St James’ Park after the Magpies have been monitoring him for some time after his success in the Championship.
Douglas admitted on a Chronicle Q&A that Bowen is the sort of player that can come in and earn first-team opportunities under Steve Bruce in the Premier League because of his clear talent in the final third.
“Jarrod Bowen of Hull City keeps getting mentioned to me and he’s someone the club have been monitoring for a while,” he said.
“He ticks all the boxes: he’s young, talented and Newcastle can offer him first-team chances.”
OPINION
This is exactly the type of signing that Newcastle need to be targeting ahead of the January window. It is clear and Bruce will know that his side are lacking in the final third, and need to find a consistent source of goals for them to be comfortable come the end of the Premier League season. Bowen could deliver just that in the North East, having been involved in 32 goals in his last 57 appearances in the Championship. The Magpies need that player that can create chances out of nothing, and Bowen is that forward. Joelinton has adapted well to the top-flight but relies on his teammates to create opportunities for him, whereas Bowen, can create chances out of nothing with his sheer pace and dribbling ability. With a lack of options available to Newcastle, Bruce will surely be desperate to bring in fresh faces in the winter window, and Bowen would be the perfect player to start that off.
