Lee Ryder has shared that there is a calmness surrounding Newcastle United at this moment in time, with the board remaining confident in Steve Bruce.
The Chronicle journalist has revealed that Mike Ashley has reassured the Magpies’ boss that he will have funds to spend in January if he wishes to use them to strengthen his side.
Ryder has reported that numerous scouting missions have already taken place, with Newcastle specifically targeting central midfielders, as well as wingers, with Lee Charnley also making it clear to Bruce that he has the boards blessing moving forward.
“Senior sources have indicated that there is a “calmness” around the club’s Benton HQ and the corridors of power at St James’ Park as Bruce gets on with the first phase of the job he took in July,” he wrote in the Chronicle on Sunday.
“There is a confidence around the United camp that Bruce and his coaching team will achieve some stability in the Premier League this season.”
OPINION
It is clear to anyone who has watched Newcastle so far this season that they are crying out for reinforcements in the January transfer window. Bruce has remained realistic when talking about the market and has already admitted that it can be tricky to secure the top talent midway through the season. The Magpies’ boss is right, teams don’t want to part ways with their best talents in the fear that they may not be able to replace them, but the truth is, with the backing of Ashley, Bruce needs to do all he can to make sure that he adds fresh faces to his side. Newcastle have yet to score more than once in a single game so far, and currently, have the joint-worst attack in the division – something that a couple of attacking players would certainly help change, and Ashley can surely see that is what is needed the most.
