Michael Owen has predicted that Newcastle United will lose against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Newcastle won their second match of the season before the international break by winning 1-0 against Manchester United courtesy of a terrific goal by Premier League debutant Matty Longstaff.

Although it was a big three points for the Magpies, Owen cannot see Steve Bruce’s side replicating that performance by winning at Chelsea this weekend and has tipped both teams to score, but Frank Lampard’s men to win.

“Newcastle were outstanding against a poor Manchester United side at St James’ Park in their last game and thoroughly deserved the points, although I think they will do well to keep this exciting young Chelsea side at arm’s length at Stamford Bridge,” Owen said on the BetVictor website.

“Chelsea have won their last four games in all competitions and look full of goals at present. Frank Lampard’s side have come a long way in a short space of time since their heavy opening-weekend defeat at Old Trafford.”

OPINION

Newcastle fans cannot raise their expectations after that win against Man United but the Magpies have won two matches so far this season and both of them have been against usual top-six sides in the Red Devils and Tottenham. Could Chelsea be added to that list of scalps? Probably not because Lampard’s side are in good form and it is going to be tough for Newcastle to keep the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount quiet. Bruce will no doubt set his side up in a similar fashion as to how he did against Man United. He will want his side to reduce the number of chances that Chelsea create and maybe bag a goal on a counter attack. Owen has predicted that both teams will score but it is definitely hard to see Newcastle getting a goal at Stamford Bridge. It could be a one or two nil victory for the Blues.
