Newcastle United fans have had to wait a while to see Allan Saint-Maximin in action. The French winger arrived on Tyneside to great fanfare over the summer, but since then he has largely had to watch from the bench due to a hamstring complaint. In recent weeks, however, he has been able to put in a more contributive effort. And he showed his promise again against Chelsea on Saturday. In 85 minutes he managed three key passes and five successful dribbles, as per Whoscored, and had it not been for some lacklustre finishing in front of goal, he may well have picked up his first assist for the Toon Army. But even after a fairly disappointing result that saw the Magpies slip back into the bottom three, Saint-Maximin chose to see the positives. Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “You don’t lose if you get knocked down, you lose if you stay down”. It’s fair to say that Newcastle fans were very keen on this kind of optimistic approach from such an enthusiastic player, and even though he may have been a bit part player so far, it is clear that the Toon Army have taken him into their hearts already.
