Florian Lejeune was back in black and white stripes on Monday night as he made his comeback from injury in the Under-23s’ 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough. Lejeune, 28, only played in the first 45 minutes when Newcastle went 2-0 down but the signs were still good as he got through the first half unscathed as he continued his recovery to fitness. Some Newcastle fans on Twitter were happy to see the Frenchman back in action, even if it was just for the Under-23s and even if it did involve him being in a defence that conceded twice. Steve Bruce may have a bit of a headache once Lejeune is back to full fitness. Federico Fernandez did well when he stepped in for Fabian Schar on Sunday in the 1-1 draw against Wolves and Lejeune is going to have to fight his way back up the pecking order if he wants to play in the Premier League. It remains to be seen whether or not the 28-year-old is still in the first-team picture because it has been so long since he last played in the top-flight.
