Feyenoord manager has confirmed in an interview with VI that he was approached by Newcastle United in the summer as the Magpies hunted down Rafa Benitez’s successor and based on the reaction of these fans, it might have been a good thing that the ex-Reading boss rejected a move to St James’ Park. One has even gone so far to say that Stam would have been worse than , who has proven to be a hugely unpopular choice of replacement for Benitez among the fanbase. Feyenoord are not doing too great this season and Stam was sacked by side Reading last year. He also has no managerial experience in the Premier League so surely Newcastle’s interest in him was merely tentative rather than anything serious. There’s no way Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley would have wanted him, would they? Unfortunately, knowing those two, the sad reality is that they probably did.
