OPINION
It’s been a real rollercoaster of a season so far for Newcastle United. After spell of abject performances, punctuated only by that shock win over Tottenham earlier in the campaign, there was cause for optimism just prior to the international break thanks to a stunning win over Manchester United at St. James’ Park. Normal service was resumed on Saturday, however, with a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea that will have made that trip back up to the north east from the capital a whole lot longer for their travelling support. One man who can hold his head high after the outing, however, is goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. The big Slovakian had averaged 2.6 saves per game in the Premier League this season prior to his trip to Stamford Bridge, as per Whoscored, but that figure will have no doubt spiked a little after a wonderful display. One point blank save from Christian Pulisic in the second half in particular was truly next level, and this was a fine reminder of just how important the 30-year-old will be if his side are to beat the drop this season. This was another masterclass from the stopper who, despite conceding 15 goals so far this term, has been fantastic at times.
