You have to feel a little bit sorry for Joelinton at Newcastle United this season. The Brazilian has hit just one goal in his first nine Premier League matches on Tyneside, but to some extent, you have to recognise that his is a side who have failed to create many chances so far this term. Prior to Saturday’s 1-0 loss with Chelsea, the Magpies had registered the third lowest amount of crosses of anybody in the Premier League, as well as having the second lowest amount of passes, as per the league themselves. In short, chances have been at a premium for the 23-year-old, but that hasn’t stopped some fans from venting their frustrations with him. Against Chelsea, there were a couple of occasions when he looked rusty in and around the box, and the last thing that a side like United can afford right now is a striker who isn’t on his game. The South American is registering just 1.6 shots per game, as per Whoscored, and while you do have to cut him a bit of slack, the fact remains – Joelinton needs to start finding the back of the net more regularly.
