Newcastle United defender Florian Lejeune will complete his comeback from injury in two weeks’ time, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claim on their website that the French enforcer has been given the all-clear by medical staff, and has returned to training with Steve Bruces’ side in the past week.

Lejeune had to undergo surgery on his knee after damaging his cruciate ligaments for the second time since moving to St James’ Park but has now been given the green light to step up his recovery.

The £38,000-a-week defender [Spotrac] picked up the injury in the 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace back in April.

OPINION

This is great news for all Newcastle fans, who will finally have a full squad of players to watch this season after a nightmare start to the campaign with injuries. Lejeune may struggle to return to the starting squad immediately though, with the Magpies looking defensively resolute each week as the season continues under Bruce. They defended brilliantly against both Manchester United and Chelsea, and the introduction of Ciaran Clark has seen the Irishman grasp his chance with both hands. The competition for places is certainly hotting up and Lejeune will have to do something special in training to catch the eye of Bruce if he is to get given the nod. Newcastle have conceded 14 goals this season, the same amount as Chelsea who currently sit in fourth, and it is their attack that needs solving before their defence, something that could see the Magpies stick with the same backline from their previous two games for the Wolves clash on Sunday.
