A source close to Peter Kenyon has claimed that he is keen to complete a takeover of Newcastle United before the end of the year.
They claim that the former Manchester United and Chelsea chief executive is remaining hopeful that he will be able to strike a deal with Mike Ashley in the next couple of months at St James’ Park.
It is suggested that the proposed takeover group are currently in the middle of due-diligence with the Premier League, and are targeting the January transfer window to complete the deal so that they can strengthen the Magpies’ squad in their survival push.
“They’re hoping it’ll happen,” they told the Mirror.
“They’re doing due diligence and they want to get the takeover done before the January transfer window, and then get some players in.”

With Ashley reportedly being sceptical around the possibility of Kenyon taking over at St James’ Park, this deal is nowhere being completed at this moment in time. January seems an unrealistic target for the group, who are right to want to use the transfer window to try and strengthen the Newcastle squad, but they must complete the deal first, with Ashley notorious for not making anything straight forward during his time at the club. Being in the middle of due diligence is a great sign, but as proved by the Bin Zayed Group in the summer, nothing is close to being completed until Ashley decides to sign on the dotted line and finalise the deal. Newcastle fans will be crossing their fingers that a takeover can be completed, in a move that would surely start to see fans flooding back to home games in their thousands after months of boycotts against Ashley and the Newcastle board.
