Newcastle United haven’t exactly been the most prolific of teams in the Premier League this season.

The Magpies have failed to score more than one goal in a single game so far in this campaign, as they have the second-worst attack in the top-flight, with Watford the only side to have scored fewer than the five they have managed.

Steve Bruce has stuck with Joelinton and Miguel Almiron as a partnership so far this season, despite their failings in front of goal – something he really should change when he has the chance.

Almiron has been moved more central this season but has still not managed to be involved in a single goal since arriving from Atlanta in January.

The new club-record signing Joelinton hasn’t exactly hit the ground running either, only managing to score a single goal in the 1-0 victory at Tottenham earlier in the season.

That chance that Bruce has been waiting for could be here, with Dwight Gayle returning from his injury at the perfect time for the Magpies’ boss to throw him straight back into the action against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

In a recent report by the Chronicle, they delivered an insight into training at Newcastle before their game against Chelsea, with Gayle being reported to be looking strong as they prepared for the trip to London.

Gayle has the poaching ability that Newcastle are currently crying out for in their side, and is a forward that can take a chance whenever it is presented too him.

He proved that at West Brom, where he managed to score 24 goals in his 40 appearances last season, the most prolific season in his entire career, and something that could have reiterated how important he could be for Bruce in this campaign.

Gayle could make a real difference against Chelsea for Bruce after the report on training highlighted just how strong he looked ahead of the game at the weekend.
