Crouch: Almiron has something

Peter Crouch has claimed that Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron does have “something”, but has also admitted that his current form is “terrible”.

The Paraguayan has still yet to score or assist a goal for the Toon Army, and wasted a handful of golden opportunities to break his duck against Wolves on Sunday.

But Crouch is of the opinion that he can still come good.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 (BBC One, Sunday October 27th, 22.30), he said: “He’s got something, but he hasn’t scored a goal and he hasn’t had an assist since he joined the club, and that’s terrible reading.”

OPINION

To be fair to Almiron, this was one of his brighter performances so far this season. With two key passes, two shots, a successful dribble, and his highest match rating of the season to date, as per Whoscored, there were certainly signs of improvement. That being said, he did miss a couple of really decent chances, and his lack of end product is now becoming a real issue. Crouch is correct in the sense that there is clearly a talent in the somewhere, but the Toon Army need goals and points on the board. Right now, he is providing neither. You can understand why Steve Bruce has been patient with him to this point, but something has to change soon or Almiron will be out on his ear, surely.
