Former England international Stan Collymore has delivered a surprisingly optimistic prediction for Newcastle United’s clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

The Magpies come into the game on the back of a 5-0 humiliation at Leicester City last time out, and have amassed just the one victory so far this season.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side aren’t exactly in prime form themselves, having failed to taste victory inside 90 minutes in their past four games in all competitions.

With that said, Collymore delivered a prediction of a 1-1 draw on his personal Twitter account on Sunday.

OPINION

Well, this is a bit of a surprisingly positive prediction from a Newcastle perspective. There certainly haven’t been too many pundits predicting that the Magpies will get anything from this game after being mauled by the Foxes last weekend. However, United are in poor form themselves and have a similarly under-pressure manager and hated ownership. You’d think that there should be too much quality in the Red Devils side for this porous Newcastle defence to cope with, though. People like Dan James and Marcus Rashford might be too much for Steve Bruce’s men, although that hasn’t actually been the case too often so far this season. The problem with this prediction is that Collymore actually believes Newcastle will score, something they have only done four times so far this Premier League campaign. They simply don’t create enough chances, and Joelinton is increasingly isolated up front. Still, this is a decent game for the Magpies to try and bounce back.
