Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll looks set to feature against West Ham United on Saturday, according to The Chronicle.
The newspaper claims that the nine-cap England international could make a cameo against his former side after training this week.
The 30-year-old was withdrawn from the squad for last weekend’s draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers as a precautionary measure after picking up a slight injury.
Meanwhile, his fellow Magpies striker Dwight Gayle is pushing to start for the first time this season, having featured in just five minutes of action this term due to injury [Source: Transfermarkt].

This is great news for a Newcastle side devoid of inspiration in the attacking third so far this campaign. They’ve really struggled to create so far, scoring just six goals in 10 games to start the season, while finishing chances has been tough as well. We’re starting to hear cries for club record signing Joelinton to be dropped, which is understandable, with Carroll and Gayle being the likeliest candidates to come in and replace him. With Carroll seemingly only pushing for a cameo on Saturday, it appears that Gayle is more likely to take the reins against the Hammers if the Brazilian was to be relegated to the substitute’s bench. There’s little arguing that the Englishman has superior predatory instincts to the former Hoffenheim man, which is what Newcastle need. Yes, his Premier League record isn’t amazing, but he knows where the goal is, which is what the Magpies require when they create so few goalscoring chances.
