This is great news for a Newcastle side devoid of inspiration in the attacking third so far this campaign. They’ve really struggled to create so far, scoring just six goals in 10 games to start the season, while finishing chances has been tough as well. We’re starting to hear cries for club record signing Joelinton to be dropped, which is understandable, with Carroll and being the likeliest candidates to come in and replace him. With Carroll seemingly only pushing for a cameo on Saturday, it appears that Gayle is more likely to take the reins against if the Brazilian was to be relegated to the substitute’s bench. There’s little arguing that the Englishman has superior predatory instincts to the former Hoffenheim man, which is what Newcastle need. Yes, his record isn’t amazing, but he knows where the goal is, which is what the Magpies require when they create so few goalscoring chances.
