Darren Bent has heaped praise on Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron, claiming he has been impressed with the Paraguayan international so far this season.

The Sky Sports pundit did share that he was concerned with the end product of Almiron, who hasn’t been involved in a single goal since joining in January from Atlanta United.

Bent has claimed that the Magpies’ fans could fall in love with the 25-year-old between now and the end of the season should he start to add goals to his locker moving forward.

“He does impress me,” he told Football Insider.

“The most vital part which is either the cross or the finish, aren’t quite yet, but I’m sure if he can add a goal or two to his game, the way he is playing at the minute, the Newcastle fans will fall in love with him as he has got a lot in the locker.

“He can put a shift in, can run past people, got a lot of pace, made a load of intelligent runs and if he can just get that goal, I think that will set everything up.”

OPINION

There have been moments this season where Almiron has shown glimpses of what he can do, but to suggest that the Newcastle fans could fall in love with the forward seem abit premature at this moment. The only job a forward has to do is put the ball in the back of the net, and the 25-year-old has failed to do that despite making 19 appearances since joining almost a year ago. It’s not as if Steve Bruce hasn’t given him the freedom he could need, pushing him forward alongside Joelinton as a central striker. It isn’t only the Paraguayan international who is struggling in the final third though, with the Magpies having the joint-worst attacking record in the league. Almiron needs to go back to the basics and make sure that he takes chances when they come his way, and Bent did mention that he simply hasn’t done that – something that must change if the fans are to fall in love with him any time soon.
