Tony Cascarino claimed Watford were one of the teams in the most trouble this season despite them drawing 1-1 with Newcastle United.

The pundit was asked by Georgie Bingham which sides he believes were in the most trouble and the only name he came back with was Watford’s.

“I wouldn’t have said these before the season started, but I’d be very concerned by the way Watford had started even though they got a draw yesterday,” said Cascarino on talkSPORT (Sunday, September 1st, 9:17am).

While Watford fans should be rightly alarmed by Cascarinos’ verdict, his claim surely also puts a sour note of Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with the Hornets on Saturday for Steve Bruce.

After all, if the Hornets are set to be one of the teams who will struggle this season then the Magpies’ only managing a draw when hosting them at St James Park seems like two points dropped rather than one point earned.

While Watford went into their clash with the Magpies having not picked up a point from their other three Premier League games, Bruce may have taken joy from earning a draw.

After all, it could have been argued that the Hornets had got their house in order ahead of the game after a morale-boosting 3-0 victory over Coventry City in the League Cup, so it was a good point for the Magpies pick up.

This is especially the case when you consider last season Watford not only reached the FA Cup final but impressively finished 11th with five more points than Rafa Benitez’s Magpies.

However, Cascarino still seems concerned by the Hornets despite their draw and that reflects poorly on Newcastle.

The Magpies had to come from a goal behind to draw with Watford on Saturday and didn’t exactly impress.

Newcastle lost the battle for possession, they saw 49% of the ball, only managed to complete 76.8% of their passes and out of their 13 shots, only two were from clear cut chances. (Source: Sky Sports)

So while the Magpies did achieve a great 1-0 win over Tottenham last weekend it has to be said, the 1-1 draw with Watford should have sent Bruce and his Newcastle side crashing back down to earth.
