Southampton are set to challenge United for Hull City winger in January, according to the Express.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Premier League duo are set to raid the club in the winter after being impressed with the attacker in early scouting missions this season.

The Express report that Hull still value Bowen at £20million despite his running out at the end of this campaign, a valuation they hope will fend interested teams off.

Bowen has enjoyed a good start to the with the Tigers, scoring three goals in his six league appearances.

OPINION

There is no surprise that are still tracking Bowen, with young and hungry players exactly the profile of player the need to be targeting. With Southampton also taking an interest, Steve Bruce may need to act quickly when January comes around to avoid missing out on one of their top targets. Hull need to be realistic though, and with Bowen coming to the end of his contract, their valuation of the 22-year-old seems steep. With injuries having dismantled the Newcastle so far, Bruce has been left with very few attacking options, and an extra winger in his side will help drastically. Bowen has averaged 3.7 shots on goal per game so far this season, as well as completing 2.3 dribbles each outing according to WhoScored – stats that prove he is a constant threat in front of goal even if his side are just above the zone. It is smart for to be scouting their targets early in the season, and this could give them the upper hand in potentially completing a deal.
