The Newcastle United squad have been told to stay away from training on Monday as Steve Bruce does not want to see them after the 5-0 defeat at Leicester City, according to the Telegraph.
Luke Edwards claimed in his article for the Telegraph that the Magpies’ squad were left hanging their heads after an explosive rant by Bruce after the game where he questioned their fight.
The Telegraph report that Bruce could not promise that he wouldn’t explode again when seeing them at the training ground, and needs more time to reflect on the performance.
The Newcastle squad are set for a meeting later in the week between themselves without Bruce, where captain Jamaal Lascelles is expected to lead after being equally open in his criticism.
OPINION
After the Leicester defeat, it was clear that Bruce had to do something, and couldn’t just sit and let his Newcastle squad continue with what they’re doing. The Magpies were simply embarrassed and couldn’t get anywhere near the Foxes, who made it look easy at the King Power Stadium. The first goal from Ricardo Pereira highlighted just how bad Newcastle were, as the right-back strolled through their midfield to the edge of the box and slotted home from the edge of the area. Bruce now needs a response and his post-match explosion at Leicester only highlighted how his squad needs to match his passion if they are to succeed in the Premier League, and the fact that the Magpies’ boss couldn’t promise that he would not explode once more on Monday only proves how much he wants to succeed. The Newcastle squad having a meeting between themselves only proves that they could also feel down with the performance and will want a reaction from the weekend embarrassment.
