Newcastle United are currently monitoring the loan situation of forward Elias Sorensen at Carlisle United, according to the Chronicle.
The newspaper claimed on their website that Shola Ameobi will continue to watch over the young Danish striker, who has only featured for 113 minutes in League Two this season.
The Chronicle claim that there is a possibility that the Magpies could call the 20-year-old back to St James’ Park, just like they have before with players such as Cal Roberts.
Carlisle manager Stephen Pressley has said there have been no commitments made about playing-time for the youngster saying, “It is entirely in our hands”.
Sorensen’s move to Carlisle was meant to boost his senior experience, but Newcastle started to monitor the situation when he played for the lower-league club’s reserves.
OPINION
It comes as no real surprise that the Magpies are monitoring the situation surrounding Sorensen. Carlisle need to be careful with the way they utilise the 20-year-old, who has had little chance to impress so far at Brunton Park. For the League Two side to use the Danish forward in their reserves is simply ludicrous, with their second-string side playing at a lower level than Newcastle under-23s in the Premier League 2. If that continues then it would have been more beneficial for the youngster to stay with the Magpies and play in the EFL Trophy this season. This will be the first real test of Ameobi at Newcastle, with the former forward needing to prove his worth and make sure that this loan-spell doesn’t crush Sorensen but instead actually benefits him with experiences that he can use going forward at St James’ Park. The 20-year-old has been involved in 18 goals in his 27 appearances for the under-23s, and if he doesn’t get the chance to replicate that sort of form at Carlisle then Newcastle must look to place him elsewhere.
